Riveiro: We must not repeat our mistakes

Jose Riveiro, the head coach of Al Ahly, thinks his club could have defeated Inter Miami at the Club World Cup on Sunday if they had taken their chances in the first half.

The Red Eagles and the Herons played to a 0-0 tie at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens over the weekend, marking the start of the new structure of the extended global competition.

Both goalkeepers played well in the game. Oscar Ustari kept Riveiro’s team at bay with a series of excellent saves in the first forty-five minutes, notably denying Trezeguet a penalty kick shortly before halftime.

As the Egyptian Premier League champions faced mounting pressure in the second half, Mohamed El Shenawy took center stage, making crucial stops to deny Fafa Picault, Lionel Messi, and Maximiliano Falcon.

Riveiro stated that he was uneasy with Al Ahly’s defensive strategy following the restart and that they cannot afford to repeat same errors against Palmeiras on Thursday.

“It’s a football game; mistakes are made during play. “I believe we had a good number of opportunities to change the direction of the game in the first half,” the Spaniard told DAZN.

We were defending a little lower than we would have liked in the second half, and we also had some issues with the transitions.

“We must now get better. It’s hard to talk about Palmeiras. We do our best to get ready for the game. We will examine today’s events to try to steer clear of the same blunders.
