Njerae and Canadian Preston Release “Gone,” Their First International Collaboration Pablo

Kenyan Afro-Indie star Njerae hits a big milestone in her career with the release of Gone. It’s her first foreign collaboration since early 2024, when she signed with Universal Music Group East Africa.

Together with Preston Pablo, a Canadian singer who won a Juno Award, and Kobby Worldwide, a skilled Ghanaian producer, Njerae tells a moving story of love and loss set to rich soundscapes from across the continent.

Since the release of her EP Four Letter Word in February, which has been streamed over 1.5 million times, Njerae has been riding a wave of popularity. With songs like “Find Me” with Kenyan rap stars King Kaka and Scar (Wakadinali) and “Sema” by Femi One and Brandy Maina, she’s shown that she has a varied and in-demand voice in East Africa’s music scene.

Njerae is reaching more people outside of Kenya now that she has been named to Apple Music’s “Africa Rising Class of 2025” and as Spotify Africa’s Global Ambassador for the EQUAL campaign. With Gone, she uses the energy from her hit song “Lover Girl” to make an enticing pop-R&B mix that combines Afro-Indie vibes with Western polish that’s ready for the charts.

Njerae says, “This collaboration is so important to me.” “I’ve been impressed by Preston’s rise and how his music moves people, even here in East Africa.” With this track, we were able to tell the same story from two different points of view: one about love, sadness, and hope.

Gone is a sad song about a love that seemed to last forever. Njerae shows how people feel after a breakup through lush production and haunting tunes. She shows the confusion, longing, and refusal to let go that come after. Preston Pablo’s soulful voice raises the tension and makes the song more vulnerable as both artists deal with the sad reality of love lost but not forgotten.

Gone is more than just a duet; it’s a culture bridge between Njerae’s African-influenced music and Preston’s North American pop appeal. This made a song for everyone who has ever had a hard time moving on.

Their collaboration not only shines a light on two up-and-coming stars, but it also marks the beginning of a new era of global music partnerships where emotion and authenticity can be felt across countries.
