Ye has once more changed his name
The Hip-Hop and fashion mogul officially changed his name to Ye in 2021.
Kanye West has once more altered his name. The artist formerly known as Kanye legally changed his name to Ye in 2021 and has now updated his name to “Ye Ye,” as per business documents acquired by Page Six.
The submissions, presented by Hussain Lalani, his chief financial officer, indicate the new name appearing across various business entities, including Yeezy Apparel, Yeezy Record Label, LLC, and Getting Out Our Dreams Inc. The documentation supersedes the former designation of “Ye West” and specifies “Ye Ye” as the “manager or member name” associated with each company.
Even with the official change, Ye Ye has not yet recognized the new name on his social media platforms. Earlier this month, the rapper announced that he would cease using his @kanyewest X handle, stating, “Ima finally stop using the @kanyewest twitter cause my name is Ye.” I’m going to start a Ye account, and it is what it is.
In 2018, the creator known as Donda announced that he had abandoned his birth name in favor of a new moniker.
“The entity previously recognized as Kanye West.” “I am YE,” he posted on X (formerly Twitter) prior to the release of his album with the same title. Three years later, he formalized the switch, referencing “personal reasons” in legal documents, and a judge sanctioned the name change in 2021.
In March 2024, Ye’s chief of staff, Milo Yiannopoulos, sent a letter urging media outlets, streaming services, and platforms to permanently refer to the artist by his chosen name, asserting, “Ye is one of the most recognizable people in the world, on par with presidents and popes.”
The letter clearly indicated that the name change encompassed more than just branding. It centered on his independence and the refusal of what Ye referred to as his “slave name.”
