Senegale ends England’s dominance over the Africa team with a 3-1 victory
Senegal became the first African side to upset England in 22 meetings on Tuesday after winning a friendly game at the City Ground 3-1 due to goals from Ismaila Sarr, Habib Diarra, and Cheikh Sabaly.
Senegal increased their winning streak to 24 games, while England lost for the first time in four games under new manager Thomas Tuchel.
Jude Bellingham’s goal in the build-up was disallowed due to a handball.
When Senegal goalkeeper Edouard Mendy stopped Anthony Gordon’s attempt in the seventh minute but spilled the ball into Kane’s path, Kane gave England the lead.
Compared to their lackluster 1-0 victory over Andorra in the World Cup qualifying round on Saturday, there were 10 changes.
After spotting Kyle Walker dozing off, Sarr pushed in Nicolas Jackson’s cross in the 40th minute to give the home club their first goal under Tuchel.
The visitors extended their lead in the 62nd minute when Diarra caught a ball over the top and sent it past goalkeeper Dean Henderson’s legs.
Long into stoppage time, England supporters taunted Sabaly’s goal after the final whistle.
With nine shots on goal to England’s four, including Sarr’s early header that the goaltender missed, Senegal dominated Henderson.
Gordon misjudged Walker’s close-range cross in the first half, wasting a great chance to give England a two-goal lead.
Mendy made an incredible last-minute stop to deny England what would have been an equalizer from Bukayo Saka before Senegal added their third.
