Ranieri turns down a job in Italy to stay as senior adviser to Rome
Claudio Ranieri, the former Leicester City manager, turned down the chance to become Italy’s manager in order to concentrate on his role at Roma.
Ranieri is still a top advisor even if Gian Piero Gasperini recently succeeded him as Roma manager.
After his team lost 3-0 to Norway in a World Cup qualifying match on Friday, Luciano Spalletti was fired by the Italian football association on Monday.
Ranieri came out of retirement to take over as manager of Roma last November, but he left at the end of the season.
“My decision, the Friedkins supported me,” Ranieri stated in an interview with the Italian news agency ANSA. I express my gratitude to FIGC President Gravina for the chance.
According to Sky in Italy, Stefano Pioli will be considered for the position by the Italian FA.
