Trump claims that as the feud continues, he has no plans to communicate with Musk

Elon Musk and U.S. President Donald Trump may not be able to put an end to their conflict over a comprehensive tax-cut bill anytime soon, as the president stated on Friday that he had no intentions to talk to Musk.

Trump told reporters on Air Force One that he wasn’t “thinking about” the CEO of Tesla.

“I hope he does well with Tesla,” Mr. Trump stated.

Trump, however, stated that an examination of Musk’s numerous federal contracts was necessary. “We’ll take a look at everything,” the president declared. “It’s a lot of money.”

An anonymous White House official stated that Trump might sell the red Tesla Model S he purchased in March after displaying Musk’s electric vehicles on the White House lawn.

While he refrained from speaking directly to Trump, Musk continued to criticize the big Republican tax and spending measure, which includes a large portion of Trump’s domestic program.

Musk magnified other people’s comments on his social media platform X that Trump’s “big beautiful bill” would harm Republicans politically and increase the country’s $36.2 trillion debt. Another X user posted that Musk had blasted Congress, and Trump had retaliated by attacking Musk directly. He replied “exactly” to the message.

Additionally, Musk stated that a new political party in the US was needed “to represent the 80% in the middle!”

Speaking to Musk’s crew, one source stated that Musk’s anger has started to subside and that they believe he will want to mend his connection with Trump.

One day after the two men engaged in an open war in an unprecedented show of aggression that signaled the bleak end of a tight friendship, the White House released its statements.

Opening Friday, Tesla’s stock (TSLA.O) increased, recovering some of the losses from Thursday’s session, when it fell 14% and lost $150 billion in value—the biggest one-day collapse in the company’s history.

For the most part, Musk’s prominent supporters have remained quiet throughout the conflict. However, one investor, James Fishback, demanded that Musk issue an apology.

“President Trump has shown grace and patience at a time when Elon’s behavior is disappointing and frankly downright disturbing,” Fishback stated in a statement.

Musk, the richest man in the world, contributed significantly to Trump’s 2024 campaign for president. Musk was appointed by Trump to lead a contentious initiative to reduce federal salaries and expenditures.

A week ago, as Musk concluded his tenure as director of the Department of Government Efficiency, Trump hosted a celebration for him at the White House. Musk fell well short of his bold predictions to slash $2 trillion from the federal budget, cutting only around 0.5 percent of total spending.

Musk has since called Trump’s tax-cutting and expenditure plan a “disgusting abomination.” Republicans have a narrow majority in Congress, and his resistance is making it more difficult to enact the package.

After barely passing the House of Representatives last month, Trump’s measure is now in the Senate, where Republicans claim they will make additional modifications. The bill would increase debt by $2.4 trillion over a ten-year period, according to nonpartisan economists.

Mike Johnson, the speaker of the House, stated that he has been messaging Musk and hopes the disagreement gets settled soon.

“I don’t argue with him about how to build rockets and I wish he wouldn’t argue with me about how to craft legislation and pass it,” Johnson stated to CNBC.

“VERY DISAPPOINTED.”

Trump was “very disappointed” in Musk, a statement he made to reporters on Thursday after originally remaining silent during Musk’s push to destroy the measure.

Musk said that Trump would have lost without his backing and advocated for his impeachment. Musk spent around $300 million on the elections last year.

The rocket company SpaceX and its satellite division Starlink are among the companies with whom Musk has government contracts that Trump has threatened to sever.

The billionaire went on to threaten the decommissioning of SpaceX’s Dragon spaceship, which is the only American spacecraft that can carry humans to the moon. Later, Musk retracted the warning.

When Trump withdrew his candidacy of Jared Isaacman, an ally of Musk, to lead the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration over the weekend, Musk was incensed. White House personnel director Sergio Gor allegedly influenced Trump’s opposition to Isaacman by drawing attention to his prior contributions to Democrats, according to two people with intimate knowledge of the conflict.

Gor and Musk had been at differences since the billionaire chastised Gor’s hiring rate during a cabinet meeting in March, according to the two individuals.

Although he would not discuss his relationship with Musk, White House spokesperson Steven Cheung commended Gor’s efforts to staff the government.

If Musk withdraws his support or other large Silicon Valley corporate executives turn away from Trump, a protracted battle may make it more difficult for Republicans to maintain control of Congress in the upcoming midterm elections.

In addition to calling for the dismissal of “all politicians who betrayed the American people” next year, Musk has previously stated that he intended to reduce his political expenditures.

Due to the widespread protests at Tesla locations caused by his affiliation with the Trump administration, sales have decreased, and investors have expressed concern that Musk’s focus is too split.
