Jay Wright reportedly has no interest in coaching the Knicks

The retired Hall of Famer Jay Wright will not return to New York, despite the fact that the Knicks have three players he coached at Villanova, according to many media sites on Saturday.

Wright and Knicks president Leon Rose, who is close to Wright, reportedly spoke about the coaching position, but no formal interview was set.

The Knicks fired head coach Tom Thibodeau on Tuesday after just one season, following their first trip to the Eastern Conference finals in 25 years.

Wright was the coach of current Knicks players Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, and Jalen Brunson at Villanova, all of whom played on the team that won the 2016 national title.

Wright left Villanova after 21 seasons in 2022 to work as a college basketball analyst for TNT and CBS. At the school, his record was 520-197.

Hart joked on social media in response to the rumors that Wright would not be coaching the Knicks: “Man Thank You. Remain retired.

Since Thibodeau’s firing, the Knicks have been considering a number of possibilities, including Dallas Mavericks coach Jason Kidd, according to ESPN.
