Roma has Gian Piero Gasperini confirmed
Gian Piero Gasperini has been formally named AS Roma’s new head coach. Gasperini’s contract is valid through the 2027–2028 campaign. After nine productive years at Atalanta, where he established the team a formidable force in Serie A and Europe and guided them to a historic Europa League title in 2024, Gasperini, 67, joins the team.
By declining to extend his contract, Gasperini announced he will depart Atalanta at the end of May 2025. Although he was proud of his accomplishments, he said that he was up for a new challenge.
After a period of uncertainty at Roma, the appointment was made. Claudio Ranieri, who has been the club’s interim coach since November 2024, reportedly spoke with Gasperini before to the club’s decision and intends to transition into an executive position.
While some fans have questioned Gasperini’s suitability at Roma, others—including former captain Daniele De Rossi—have hailed him as one of Italy’s top coaches in recent memory.
With Gasperini’s appointment, Roma is entering a new era. It is hoped that he can contribute tactical creativity and enable the team to compete at the top levels of both Italy and Europe.
