The Ugandan army reports that an explosion in Kampala killed two terrorists
The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) said that two people they think were terrorists were killed when an explosion happened at the Munyonyo Shrine in Kampala, the capital, on June 3. Thousands of people were there to celebrate Ugandan Martyrs Day.
In a statement put on X, military spokesman Col. Chris Magezi said, “This morning, a UPDF counter-terrorism unit caught and killed two armed terrorists in Munyonyo, a high-class city suburb.”
“One of the terrorists, female, was a suicide bomber laden with powerful explosives.”
He also said that the operation was based on intelligence and that “the security services are on high alert to make sure the Martyrs Day celebrations go off without a hitch.”
A spokesman for the Uganda Police Force told local reporters that the explosion hurt a number of people.
“Remain calm but vigilant,” the UPDF spokesperson told the public. “Report to the security services any suspicious people, things, or activities for immediate attention.”
