The prime minister of Sudan dissolves the government, according to the state news agency

Late on Sunday, state news agency SUNA claimed that Kamil Idris, Sudan’s new prime minister, had dissolved the country’s interim administration.

The announcement of a new administration, the first since the Sudanese army and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces went to war, was not made by SUNA.

The head of state of Sudan, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, appointed Idris. Since earlier this year, the RSF has declared its intention to form a parallel administration with its allies.

Idris, the nation’s first prime minister since a military takeover in 2021, took the oath of office on Saturday.

He pledged in an address on Sunday to prioritize peace, security, and reconstruction in Sudan while maintaining an equal distance from all political groups.
