Taylor Swift Repurchases Her Master Recordings

The 35-year-old singer disclosed that she was able to repurchase all of the songs from “Taylor Swift,” “Fearless,” “Speak Now,” “Red,” “1989,” and “Reputation” six years after music manager Scooter Braun purchased them from her previous record company, Big Machine.

“I’m trying to gather my thoughts into something coherent, but right now my mind is just a slideshow,” she said in an emotional essay on her website, Taylorswift.com. This is a flashback of all the times I yearned for, dreamed about, and pined for the opportunity to share this news with you. Every time I reached out for it, it fell through, even though I was so near. After 20 years of having the carrot dangled and then snatched away, I nearly lost hope that it would ever happen. However, that is now all in the past.

Since learning that this is actually happening, I’ve been crying uncontrollably at random times. The words “all of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me” are truly mine. as well as every one of my music videos. Every concert movie. The photographs and album art. The tracks that have not yet been released. The recollections. The magic. The madness. Each and every epoch. The work of my life.

Taylor continued by saying that repurchasing the rights was her “greatest dream come true” and thanked the people at Shamrock Capital, an investment business that purchased the masters from Braun in 2020, for providing her with the chance.

“It’s actually quite reserved to say that this is my greatest dream come true,” she stated. My fans are aware of how significant this has been to me; in fact, I painstakingly rerecorded and reissued four of my albums under the title Taylor’s Version. I was able to buy back my songs because of the fervent support you gave those albums and the success you made of The Eras Tour. I’m so grateful that you helped me get back in touch with this art that I’ve devoted my life to but had never owned before.

“I’ve just ever desired the chance to put in enough effort to be able to buy my music outright, with no conditions, no partnership, and complete independence. I will always be appreciative of Shamrock Capital’s staff for being the first to extend this offer to me. Every encounter we’ve had with them has been handled with integrity, equity, and decency. They saw this as a business transaction, but I felt that they saw it for what it was to me: my handwriting, my sweat, my memories, and decades of dreams. I am really grateful. A massive shamrock in the center of my forehead might be my first tattoo.

Additionally, Taylor updated fans on “Taylor Swift” and “Reputation,” the two albums she has yet to release in a “Taylor’s Version.”

She acknowledged that she is unsure if she will ever be able to improve on “Reputation,” even though she has previously re-recorded her debut album.
