PSG defeats Inter in a historic UCL final victory to capture their first title

Paris Saint-Germain, who had already won Ligue 1 and the Coupe de France, won their first Champions League trophy with a 5-0 thumping of Inter Milan in Munich, the largest margin of victory in the competition’s final since 1956.

PSG took a commanding lead thanks to an early goal from Achraf Hakimi against his old team in the 12th minute and two goals from 19-year-old forward Désiré Doué, who became the first teenager to score twice in a final since Benfica’s Eusebio in a 5-3 victory over Real Madrid in 1962. Kvicha Kvaratskhelia and substitute Senny Mayulu completed the French champions’ historic victory.

PSG, owned by Qatar, has spent more than ten years attempting to win the Champions League by acquiring the best players in the world, such as Kylian Mbappé, Neymar, Lionel Messi, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

However, two years ago, PSG abandoned that strategy in favor of acquiring new players, and now they are the European champions—ironically, in their first season without Mbappé, who moved to Real Madrid last summer with the goal of winning the Champions League.

PSG’s victory gives them just the second French team to win the European Cup, following Merseille in 1993. Luis Enrique, the coach, achieved his second triumph after leading Barcelona to victory in 2015.
