The US’s New Peace Plan Calls for a 60-Day Ceasefire in Gaza

A 60-day ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages and prisoners, and the prompt delivery of humanitarian aid upon agreement are all included in a new US peace plan.

According to information Reuters obtained on Friday, a fresh US-backed plan to end the ongoing fighting in Gaza calls for a 60-day ceasefire as well as a sizable prisoner and hostage swap.

According to the plan, a truce would start as soon as Hamas accepted the conditions. In exchange for 125 Palestinian inmates serving life sentences and the repatriation of 180 dead Palestinians, 28 Israeli captives, both alive and dead, would be released within the first week of the ceasefire.

The idea calls for humanitarian aid to be sent into Gaza as soon as Hamas publicly authorizes the ceasefire, in addition to the exchange. The action is meant to address the region’s deteriorating humanitarian situation, where infrastructure damage and civilian casualties have increased.

The planned agreement is a part of larger initiatives to de-escalate violence and provide the foundation for a more sustainable peace by the Trump administration and foreign mediators. But like other attempts, the plan’s success depends on all sides reaching an agreement amidst ingrained political differences and mistrust.

In order to stabilize the area and pave the way for future, more extensive talks, officials expect the agreement will be a first step.
