Don’t be duped: Donald Trump pardons an NBA youngster and commutes Larry Hoover’s federal sentence

Given the number of Tubi-level shows the Trump administration has produced over the course of two terms, it would have received twice as many EGOTs if political theater prizes were given out.

Trump has shortened the federal life sentence of Larry Hoover, the founder of the Gangster Disciples and one of Chicago’s most notorious and deadly criminals, according to ABC 7 Chicago. Hoover, who is currently 74 years old, was convicted of federal crimes in 1997 and has served nearly 30 years in prison. Federal prosecutors accused Hoover of continuing to organize killings and sell drugs from inside prison walls, even though he was already serving a 200-year term for the 1973 murder of a 19-year-old street rival. For those offenses, he received six life sentences.

Only Hoover’s federal sentence is affected by Trump’s commutation; he still has to serve the remaining 200 years of his Illinois state term, but he will be eligible for parole based on the time he has already spent. To put it mildly, his family was overjoyed.

Winndye Hoover, the wife, stated, “It’s overwhelming.” “We just hope it goes through because it’s been a long time coming.”

According to son Larry Hoover Jr., “he deserves redemption.” “He is worthy of another opportunity to be a part of this community, and if they so desire, he can contribute to this community.”

Although many people are happy that Hoover will have the opportunity to return home, the discussion surrounding Trump’s decision is, at best, cynical.

The Independent claims that Trump’s decision to pardon rapper NBA Youngboy after he received a two-year term for gun-related offenses is maybe even more puzzling than the Hoover commutation.

It is commonly believed that Trump is taking these actions in an effort to gain greater favor with Black voters in general and Black male voters in particular. Although there has been constant discussion about Black males backing the MAGA agenda since the 2020 election, Trump will need to do much more than assist a rapper and a gangster if he wants more Black men to carry his water.
