Curious Reason Why Actress Whoopi Goldberg, 69, Hasn’t Worn a Bra Since She Was 20
Caryn Elaine Johnson, better known by her stage name Whoopi Goldberg, is an American comedian and actress who has startled many of her admirers by admitting that, in her 69 years of life, she has never worn a bra.
The comedian and actress revealed on last week’s edition of The View on ABC that, based on her timeline, she hasn’t worn a bra since she was in her 20s in the 1970s because she has always felt that bras would make her less comfortable.
When her fellow cohosts raised the subject of how to wear the underwear, the subject of wearing it came up.
One of the cohosts, 82-year-old Joy Behar, made a joke about wanting to unbuckle and let “her girls” go since she was uncomfortable in hers.
“I feel like doing something right now, you know what? I want to throw these girls out. “Get back up,” Behar joked.
The group asked Goldberg what she thought, and Behar, who appeared to know her well, responded, “She doesn’t wear one, she liberated those girls a long time ago.” – a statement that Goldberg categorically confirmed.
“I’m not wearing one. I don’t mind if they [my daughters] fall to the ground, and I haven’t worn a bra in fifty years because it’s too unpleasant! I own them!
Goldberg then remarked, “This is what you do,” and rose from her chair. She jokingly said, “You’re walking and then you go, ‘Hey girl,'” as she stared at her chest and pretended to kick something off the ground.
At this year’s Met Gala in New York on May 5, Goldberg was among the A-list celebs who made a daring fashion statement.
The celebrity wore a Thom Browne-tailored gown that complemented the Costume Exhibit’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme.
A year ago, Whoopi disclosed that she had developed a cocaine addiction in the 1980s, a disturbing admission she detailed in her memoir, Bits And Pieces: My Mother, My Brother, And Me, according to the Daily Mail.
She also wrote about her mother, Emma, spending two years in a mental health facility within the book’s pages.
The Grammy winner recalled the height of her cocaine addiction, writing that she thought she could handle the drug because it didn’t seem as hazardous as heroin, which she had previously become addicted to in the 1970s.
