VIPERS were crowned The Uganda Premier League Champions for 2024–2025
At St. Mary’s stadium in Kitende, the Vipers were declared winners and lifted the 2024–25 league trophy in front of their own supporters for the seventh time since the national league’s founding in 1968.
Alou Kokas gave the visiting Soltilo Bright Stars the lead in the 62nd minute following a quick counter, with Nelson Ssenkatuka putting him up for a close-range goal. However, this almost spoiled the celebration.
Even though TV replays showed that the Stars’ defender had handled in the area, Okello’s penalty kick six minutes later brought the score back to even.
After close opponent Ivan Ahimbisibwe of URA failed to add to his 16 goals in the 1-0 loss to second-place NEC, Okello earned the Golden Boot for his 19th league goal of the season and his eighth from the penalty spot.
Ultimately, Vipers finished the season with 69 points, two more than NEC. The fans, who were all wearing club home jerseys, cheered when FUFA President Moses Magogo, Vipers bankroller Lawrence Mulindwa, and league board member Sserebe presented the new league trophy to captain Milton Karisa.
Following the ceremony, a number of performers attended the celebration, with DJs Ssuuna Ben and Mbaziira Tony leading the way. At the new Fufa Kadiba stadium on May 31, the Vipers will take on KCCA in the Stanbic Uganda Cup.
With a 3-0 victory over longstanding rivals Express at Nakivubo, KCCA prepared well for the championship game. Julius Poloto scored two goals, while Emmanuel Anyama, who was in fine form, added the other.
With goals from Ivan Mayanja and Ambrose Kiirya, the Maroons defeated Mbarara City 2-0 at Luzira to seal a top-8 finish, while SC Villa defeated Lugazi 1-0 at Lugazi, with Hassan Mubiru’s lone goal ending the match.
BUL defeated UPDF 3-2 at Bombo, escaping a five-goal thriller to finish the second round undefeated. Ochungu, Samuel Mpaasa, and Karim Ndugwa gave BUL the goals, while Samuel Ssekamate’s brace was little solace for UPDF.
Mbale Heroes lost against Kitara 6-1 on the last day, with goals from Robert Eseru for Mbale Heroes and Patrick Kaddu, George Ssenkaaba, Rogers Mugisha (x2), Solomon Okwalinga, and Kasaija for Kitara.
With goals from Reagan Male and Umar Kasumba, the Wakiso Giants lost to Police 2-0 once more in their Premier League campaign.
