Libya reports a pipeline south of Zawiya city had an oil leak

The National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced on Saturday that a pipeline south of the Libyan city of Zawiya had been forced to close due to an oil leak.

With a daily capacity of 120,000 barrels, Libya’s largest operational refinery is located in Zawiya, 40 kilometers (25 miles) west of Tripoli. The refinery is linked to the Sharara oilfield, which produces 300,000 barrels per day.

An image of a stream of oil leakage in the desert was shared by the NOC. According to a statement from the firm, flow from the Hamada oilfields through the impacted pipeline was immediately stopped.

“A group of experts is investigating the cause of the leak in line with the maintenance work. Additionally, plans and coordination are in place to recover the oil that escaped and deal with any environmental contamination that may have resulted,” the business stated.
