Taylor Swift Was Dropped from the Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni Legal Case
Taylor Swift has withdrawn from the legal dispute between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni as the subpoena in the escalating Hollywood defamation lawsuit is withdrawn.
After a subpoena was dismissed, Taylor Swift was taken out of a lawsuit involving actresses Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni.
The 2024 movie It Ends With Us co-stars Lively and Baldoni are currently involved in a court battle. Lively charged Baldoni with smear campaigns and sexual harassment.
In a counterclaim, Baldoni accused Lively and her husband, actor Ryan Reynolds, of slander and civil extortion. Baldoni has refuted the accusations.
In an attempt to gather correspondence between Swift and Lively’s friends’ legal counsel, Baldoni’s legal team subpoenaed Swift and her lawyers as part of the legal procedure, Variety reported.
Variety stated that Swift’s legal team protested to the subpoena, arguing that it was a “unwarranted fishing expedition.” As a result, the demand was dropped.
Later on, the subpoena was revoked. An official for Lively expressed their satisfaction with the ruling and emphasized their backing for Swift’s legal team’s opposition to the request.
“We will continue to defend any third party who is unfairly harassed or threatened in the process, and we supported Taylor’s team’s efforts to invalidate these inappropriate subpoenas sent to her counsel,” they stated.
The attempt to include Swift in the case seems to be intended to create “tabloid clickbait,” according to Swift’s counsel earlier this month.
The court injunction was initially issued in response to claims that Swift had coerced Baldoni into accepting Lively’s script modifications. Swift was not engaged in the film’s casting or editing, according to her team, which refuted this claim.
According to Baldoni, Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, and Swift were invited to her New York house in 2023 to negotiate screenplay alterations. They were supposed to act as her “dragons.”
“She was not involved in any casting or creative decision,” Swift’s agents responded, adding that she “never saw an edit or made any notes on the film.”
According to Variety, the subpoena was used by Baldoni’s attorneys to attempt and obtain communications pertaining to a claim that Lively’s representatives had threatened to make previous text exchanges public unless Swift released a statement endorsing her.
According to Lively’s attorneys, those accusations were “unquestionably and demonstrably false.”
“From day one, the Baldoni and Wayfarer team has attempted to center this case around Taylor Swift, a woman who has inspired tens of millions of people worldwide,” according to Lively’s spokeswoman.
When they were forced to defend themselves in a federal court, they gave up. Their options for diverting attention from the real allegations of sexual harassment and retaliation they are dealing with will eventually run out.
Lively and Reynolds are being counter-sued by Baldoni on grounds of civil extortion, defamation, and invasion of privacy.
