President Tinubu is endorsed by Nigeria’s ruling party for reelection in 2027

The All Progressives Congress (APC), which is in power in Nigeria, endorsed President Bola Tinubu on Thursday to seek a second and final term in the upcoming election, which is scheduled for early 2027.

In February 2023, Tinubu, 73, won the most recent presidential election, which his two main opponents unsuccessfully contested in court on the grounds that the vote was rigged. According to Tinubu, he won fairly.

At a summit in the capital, Abuja, the APC stated that it wants Tinubu to carry out the measures that the government claims have revived the economy, including liberalizing the currency rate and eliminating an expensive gasoline subsidy.

The International Monetary Fund, international investors, and credit rating agencies have praised Tinubu’s reforms. The worst cost-of-living problem in recent memory, according to critics, is their fault.

“On behalf of the National Working Committee, I hereby affirm the various endorsements and declare President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the sole presidential candidate of the APC,” stated APC national chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.

Several cabinet members also discussed their accomplishments since assuming office at the summit, which took place on the second anniversary of Tinubu’s president.

Nigerian presidents are limited to two four-year terms.

The opposition is viewed as being too weak and divided to pose a significant threat, despite Tinubu’s policies being criticized for harming Nigerians and failing to eradicate insecurity, which includes a protracted Islamist insurgency and banditry.

Some well-known defections to the APC have also hurt the opposition parties. Tinubu stated that he anticipated more defections of this kind, saying, “That is the game.”
