Luka Modrić, a legend of Real Madrid, has sent a touching farewell message to fans ahead of his final game at the Santiago Bernabéu on Saturday, capping off 12 incredible years with the club and an iconic chapter in football history.

In an emotional open letter to “Dear Madrid fans” on X (previously Twitter), the 38-year-old talked about how hard it is to say goodbye to the team he has known for so long. “I didn’t want to come, but that’s football, and everything in life has a beginning and an end,” he wrote.

When he first joined Real Madrid in 2012, Modrić recalls being ambitious and not realizing the historic heights he would assist the team achieve. In the last ten years, he has been instrumental in numerous achievements, such as numerous UEFA Champions League titles, La Liga triumphs, and historic comebacks.

“My life as a soccer player and as a person was transformed by playing at Real Madrid,” he stated, adding that he is “proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history.”

He was incredibly appreciative of his teammates, coaches, club president Florentino Pérez, and everyone else who helped him along the way. Modrić, however, reserved his greatest gratitude for the supporters, calling their support a bond that words could hardly express.

“I truly don’t know how to describe the unique bond we share and how loved, respected, and supported I have felt,” he wrote. “I will always remember all of the heartfelt gestures and applause you have given me.”

Modrić pledged to stay a Madridista for life, even though he will no longer be wearing the renowned white shirt following the forthcoming Club World Cup.

“Going out with a full heart.” Brimming with pride, thankfulness, and treasured memories. And even if I won’t be playing on the field after the Club World Cup, I will always be a Madrid supporter. “Hala Madrid y nada más!” he said in closing.

The game at the Bernabéu on Saturday is expected to be a heartfelt farewell to a legend who sacrificed everything for the team and earned a spot among its greatest players.
