Feds Say Music Isn’t the Main Reason for Lil Durk’s Charges
Prosecutors contend that the rapper used intimidation and ordered a lethal hit, arguing that the case is about violence rather than music.
Lil Durk is not being given a pass by federal prosecutors.
The legal team representing him attempted to have the murder-for-hire accusations related to the 2022 killing of musician Quando Rondo’s cousin, Lul Pab, dismissed on Monday.
Authorities claim that this case is not about rap lyrics, but rather a premeditated murder.
According to the prosecution, the Chicago rapper directed and funded the song that killed Saviay’a “Lul Pab” Robinson on a street in Los Angeles in August 2022. Apparently the target, Rondo, lived.
Conspiracy, murder-for-hire, and using communication means to conduct murder-for-hire resulting in death are among the serious allegations Durk is currently facing. It is a not guilty plea.
In an attempt to have the charge dropped back in April, Durk’s lawyers argued that the government had improperly influenced the grand jury with his line on Babyface Ray’s “Wonderful Wayne & Jackie Boy.”
They maintain that the lyrics were unrelated to the events and were composed and recorded in early 2022, months before the shooting. They cited the song’s producers’ sworn testimony to support their claims, and they charged that the prosecution had provided false information.
The notion that Durk was being criminalized for his music was promoted by his team after the motion was filed. However, the prosecution reacted fast.
The lyrics were taken out of the indictment when it was updated earlier this month. They did, however, clarify that the case’s essential issues remain unchanged.
The amended court brief was written by U.S. Attorney Bilal Essayli, who stated that the matter was about a deliberate act of violence rather than songs. Additionally, he noted that witness safety is in jeopardy, adding that several witnesses have already received threats related to the case.
Prosecutors think the murder was a reprisal for King Von’s death in 2020. In order to get revenge, they claim Durk made use of his connections, resources, and influence.
Now incarcerated in Los Angeles, Durk is expected to make another court appearance in June.
His attempt to persuade the judge to release him on bond before to the start of the trial will be his third attempt.
