Arteta Says Arsenal Will Win Trophies Next Year

Even though Arsenal will finish second for the third straight season, not everyone at the club views this campaign as a success.

With a spectacular goal from the edge of the area in the second half, Declan Rice broke Arsenal’s five-game losing streak and solidified their spot among the top five teams in the Premier League.

Even though Arsenal will finish second for the third straight season, not everyone at the club views this campaign as a success.

The Gunners were eliminated in the Champions League and League Cup semi-finals and never put up a real title push as Liverpool easily won the championship. The 2020 FA Cup is still Arteta’s only trophy at Arsenal, and the team hasn’t taken home the league title in twenty-one years.

After Newcastle’s final whistle, Arteta spoke to the Emirates audience, saying:

We dreamed of being here right now or in a week, presenting you all large awards. But because of a number of factors, we were unable to do it this season. We must ensure that the pursuit of a desire remains clear and that we approach it with zeal and optimism in the upcoming season.

In this stadium, we have begun to write our own history. Much more lies ahead, but it won’t be simple. Together, we must accomplish it. I can assure you that this team has the talent, quality, and drive to succeed.

The captain of Arsenal, Martin Ødegaard, also said:

“We have a lot to be proud of this season, particularly in the Champions League. But in the league, we haven’t performed well enough. All of our experiences—both positive and negative—must be learned from in order to improve. We will be motivated to come back stronger and bring championships to this club by the hurt of losing.
