OPIT Provides African Professionals with Flexible, Accredited AI Degrees
OPIT offers flexible, EU-accredited online degree programs with the goal of educating African professionals in AI, data science, and cybersecurity.
The Open Institute of Technology (OPIT), an online university situated in Malta, has announced that it is prepared to train the next generation of African AI champions in response to the spike in demand for artificial intelligence (AI) talents worldwide.
With the goal of providing high-quality, easily accessible tech education, OPIT is establishing itself as an essential collaborator in Africa’s digital revolution.
Following the 2025 LinkedIn Future of Work Report, which found that AI-related job postings increased by 38% between 2020 and 2024, making AI one of the fastest-growing job categories globally, the announcement was made. Accredited Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, and Digital Business are being offered by OPIT to professionals throughout the continent in recognition of this increase and the skills need it creates.
“Our mission has been to provide a curriculum that meets the world’s most urgent demand in tech skills by focusing on their applications in the real world,” said Riccardo Ocleppo, founder of OPIT, speaking from Milan. With students from 78 nations and a team of 45 foreign professors, we take pride in helping Africa’s rapidly expanding digital ecosystems.
The African Union’s Continental AI Strategy, which prioritizes education, AI infrastructure, and people-centric development, is in line with OPIT’s growth. To prepare member states for a future driven more and more by AI, the AU plan highlights the necessity of investing in personnel, data centers, broadband, and AI skills.
Watson Ndethi, an IT specialist from Nairobi, enrolled in OPIT’s MSc in Responsible Artificial Intelligence program in September 2024. Watson, who has worked in the sector for more than ten years, called OPIT’s adaptable learning paradigm revolutionary.
“OPIT’s blended model lets you fit a top-notch, accredited graduate degree into your already hectic work schedule by combining optional weekly live sessions with carefully chosen asynchronous study resources. For working professionals, this strategy offers a useful alternative,” he stated.
The influence of OPIT on the AI scene in Africa is already noticeable. The institution’s student body, which is increasingly composed of people from South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Egypt, Rwanda, and Nigeria, symbolizes the continent’s need for education that is current and focused on the future. With 40 students from six continents completing its flagship MSc in Applied Data Science and AI, OPIT celebrated its first-ever graduation in March 2025.
Ocleppo claims that OPIT is particularly appealing to African professionals since it allows them to continue doing worthwhile work in their own countries while studying away.
More students from top innovation hubs like Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, South Africa, Egypt, and Rwanda will be welcomed in 2025. “OPIT is a powerful option for working professionals because it allows them to continue doing meaningful work at home while studying remotely,” he said.
OPIT prioritizes the needs of its students by providing live masterclasses, interactive activities, 24/7 tutoring, and top-notch digital resources. In order to ensure that graduates are both academically sound and prepared for the workforce, all courses are EU-accredited and created to close the gap between theory and practice.
OPIT’s concept provides a fast, scalable solution for a continent rushing to use AI for healthcare, education, agriculture, and climate resilience. Additionally, it offers Africa’s future IT leaders an opportunity to lead and compete on the international scene. Visit www.opit.com to learn more about OPIT’s programs.
