US and Qatar sign historic agreements valued at $1.2 trillion during Trump’s visit, the White House said

Economic trade between the United States and Qatar will amount to at least $1.2 trillion, the White House said.

A fact sheet issued by the White House on Wednesday stated that the United States and Qatar had inked a number of significant agreements that are anticipated to result in an economic exchange of at least $1.2 trillion.

Signed during US President Donald Trump’s official visit to Doha, the agreements were praised as a major step forward for the two nations’ economic, military, and aviation cooperation.

Qatar Airways’ $96 billion agreement with US aerospace behemoths Boeing and GE Aerospace is one of the agreements’ biggest elements. Purchases of up to 210 aircraft, especially Boeing 787 Dreamliners and 777X jets, with GE Aerospace engines are part of the agreement. The current fleet expansion and modernization strategy of Qatar Airways includes this sizable order.

Along with the aviation agreement, the two countries also inked a declaration of intent that may lead to US investments in Qatar’s defense capabilities and military facilities totaling up to $38 billion. Expanded air defense and maritime security systems are among them, as are improvements at the vital Al Udeid Air Base, a major regional center for the US military.

Trump inked a number of defense and economic agreements on his previous visit to Saudi Arabia, which comes just after these arrangements. His Gulf tour is commonly interpreted as an attempt to strengthen US dominance in the area by forming more strategic and commercial alliances.

In the upcoming weeks, when discussions continue and official contracts are finalized, more information about the agreements should become available.
