Mokwana creates history in Tunisia

Elias Mokwana of Bafana Bafana has created history by becoming the first South African player to win the Ligue Professionnelle 1 in Tunisia.

Espérance de Tunis defeated Olympique de Béja 5-0 on Sunday at the Stade du 7 Novembre to win their 34th league title. In the 78th minute, Mokwana scored Espérance’s fifth goal of the game after coming off the bench, giving the Tunisian powerhouses the victory.

After winning the Tunisian Super Cup in February, Mokwana has now won two trophies since joining the team.

In August 2024, Mokwana left Sekhukhune United of the Betway Premiership in South Africa to go to the capital of Tunisia.

The winger has appeared in ten games for Bafana Bafana, including two international friendlies, five Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, and three CAF World Cup qualifiers. On March 21, 2024, he scored his first goal in South Africa’s 1-1 tie with Andora.
