Morocco will spend $760 million on disaster response supplies

Morocco intends to allocate 7 billion dirhams ($760 million) for the development of storage platforms nationwide to accumulate essential supplies in preparation for potential disasters, according to state media reports.

King Mohammed VI ordered the stockpiles following the catastrophic earthquake that struck the High Atlas Mountains in September 2023, resulting in over 2,900 fatalities and the destruction of homes and essential infrastructure.

In recent years, Morocco has experienced a series of flash floods, wildfires, cold snaps, and droughts.

According to media reports, Morocco plans to invest 2 billion dirhams in the construction of 36 storage facilities nationwide, covering a total area of 240 hectares. Additionally, 5 billion dirhams will be allocated for emergency supplies.

The supplies consist of tents, beds, blankets, field hospitals, mobile kitchens and bakeries, water purification systems, and emergency power generators, along with equipment designed to address flood, landslide, and chemical threats.
