Al Ahly shows strong interest in Pimienta
Al Ahly is reportedly considering former Sevilla head coach Garcia Pimienta as a potential successor to Marcel Koller after the Swiss coach’s exit two weeks ago.
Koller and the Red Eagles mutually agreed to terminate his contract on April 26 following the team’s elimination from the CAF Champions League by Mamelodi Sundowns in the semi-finals.
Emad El-Nahhas has assumed the role on a caretaker basis and has led the Cairo giants to three consecutive victories in the Egyptian Premier League as they aim for a third consecutive title.
Pimienta has been unemployed since his dismissal by the Palanganas on April 13, as the Spaniard faced consequences for achieving only two victories in his last 10 La Liga matches and concluding with a four-game losing streak.
Al Ahly is eager to secure a permanent appointment ahead of the restructured Club World Cup, scheduled to be held in the United States from June 14 to July 13.
According to Spanish outlet Marca, the record 12-time African champions are engaged in discussions with the 50-year-old Spaniard after presenting him with a compelling offer to take over from Koller at the Cairo International Stadium.
Nonetheless, Pimienta is believed to be exploring additional job prospects and has been closely associated with a potential transfer to Watford, who concluded the Championship season in 14th place.
