Trump’s FIFA World Cup task force will be led by the son of a former New York mayor
The son of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, Andrew Giuliani, was named by U.S. President Donald Trump on Tuesday as the executive director of the presidential task group for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States, Canada, and Mexico will host.
Andrew Giuliani was the associate director of the Office of Public Liaison and the president’s special assistant during Trump’s first term. Trump characterized him as a fiercely competitive individual and golfer.
Carlos Cordeiro, a FIFA senior counselor, will be a task force senior advisor, Trump added in the Truth Social post.
Trump stated, “Together this group will help plan the biggest, safest, and most extraordinary soccer tournament in history,” during a task force meeting that included U.S. Vice President JD Vance and FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
Trump stated that he wanted visitors to the United States who were coming to witness the tournament to have a flawless experience throughout their entire stay.
Additionally, the first-ever Club World Cup will be held in the United States from June 14 to July 13 in 11 different cities.
Infantino declared, “America will welcome the world,” in reference to the United States hosting the two international competitions.
According to Infantino, the two events would generate almost $300,000 employment and nearly $50 billion in economic production for the United States.
The task force’s vice chair, Vance, stated that the team would use all effort to ensure the activities were a success.
“Of course, everybody is welcome to come and see this incredible event, I know we’ll have visitors from close to 100 countries,” Vance stated.
“We want them to come, we want them to celebrate, we want them to watch the game but when the time is up, they’ll have to go home, otherwise, they’ll have to talk to (Homeland Security) Secretary (Kristi) Noem,” he stated.
