GM Recalls Almost 600,000 SUVs and Trucks Due to the Risk of Sudden Engine Failure
In the United States, General Motors is recalling around 600,000 full-size trucks and SUVs because of a significant engine flaw that might cause the V8 engine to suddenly fail, raising the possibility of an accident.
Documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration indicate that the problem is related to manufacturing flaws in the L87 V8 engine’s crankshaft and/or connecting rod. Engine damage or total failure without any warning signs could result from the issue.
597,630 automobiles are impacted by the recall, including:
- Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV 2021–2024
- Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, and Silverado 1500
- GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, and Sierra 1500
The engines were constructed at GM plants in Ontario, Tennessee, and New York. The business will examine, fix, or swap out the impacted engines for free. Notification letters will be sent to owners by June 9, 2025.
The action comes after a government probe into engine breakdowns in GM’s well-known L87-equipped cars is still ongoing. Following the receipt of numerous complaints, the NHTSA began its investigation in January.
Only a few months have passed since GM recalled about 462,000 diesel trucks and SUVs due to defective gearbox valves that had the potential to lock up the back wheels.
