FUTSAL: Morocco became the first CAF women’s futsal AFCON winners after an amazing comeback

Morocco defeated Tanzania 3-2 in a stunning comeback victory at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat to win the inaugural CAF Women’s Futsal Africa Cup of Nations.

The Lionesses of the Atlas overcame a two-goal deficit to win their first continental championship in front of a boisterous home crowd in a thrilling match. Jasmine Demraoui’s last-minute goal sparked celebrations.

Early on, Tanzania, who had been outstanding throughout the competition, shook the hosts with a high-pressing strategy. Anastazia Katunzi took advantage of a defensive blunder to give the visitors the lead in the fourth minute, stifling the home crowd, and their aggressive start paid dividends.

After a quick counterattack by the East African team in the 16th minute, Jamila Rajabu extended the lead, leaving Morocco startled and behind 2-0 as halftime drew near.

But Morocco made a valiant recovery in the second half, helped along by a resolute home crowd and the presence of CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe in the stands. Halfway through the half, the home team scored a goal to tie the score, and they kept applying pressure as the seconds passed.

With the score deadlocked at 2-2 and only one minute left in regulation time, Jasmine Demraoui sealed her place in history. She completed a spectacular comeback and sealed the title for Morocco by catching a loose ball on the edge of the box and shooting a crisp shot beyond the Tanzanian keeper.

When the final whistle blew, the Moroccan players and supporters celebrated with tears in their eyes as the host country won their first-ever domestic women’s futsal championship.

The triumph also guaranteed Morocco a spot in the first FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, which will be held in the Philippines from November 27 to December 7, 2025. Tanzania may be proud of their campaign as courageous runners-up and will represent Africa at the international showcase, despite the heartbreak.
