Much More Drama: Misa Hylton, a stylist, is suing Mary J. Blige for allegedly sabotaging Rapper Vado’s deal

Mary J. Blige is being sued for $5 million on allegations that, after signing rapper Vado to her company, she deliberately ruined his career.

The singer of “Not Gon’ Cry” faces a $5 million lawsuit in New York from her talent agency, M.I.S.A. Management, and her longtime pal, stylist Misa Hylton. The Grammy Award-winning musician allegedly ruined their business partnership with rapper Vado, which is why they filed the complaint.

According to All Hip Hop, Blige is charged in the lawsuit with holding up Vado’s finished album in an attempt to coerce him into severing his relationship with Hylton. The R&B singer and her company, Beautiful Life Productions, are accused by both Hylton and Vado of tampering with a signed management contract between Vado and M.I.S.A. that gave the agency a 20% cut of the rapper’s profits.

Blige allegedly convinced Vado to renounce his management agreement during exclusive events, hotel meetings, and private yacht parties where M.I.S.A. representatives were purposefully excluded, according to court documents that AHH was able to access. According to Hylton, who has created some of Mary J. Blige’s most recognizable looks since the early 1990s, the singer isolated Vado and dissuaded him from signing the contract by using her power.

The lawsuit also alleges that Blige’s boyfriend, who serves as her security director, wanted to sign Vado personally. He allegedly threatened to “lose out on opportunities” if Vado continued with M.I.S.A. and attempted to convince him to sign a new contract without legal counsel. In 2023, Blige and Vado worked together on the song “Still Believe in Love.” Vado finished an album in July 2024, but according to the lawsuit, Blige put the project on hold and prevented him from going on tour in an attempt to get him to cut his connections with Hylton’s agency.

Blige allegedly said in private chats that she would not release Vado’s album or permit him to tour “as long as he stayed with M.I.S.A.” according to the complaint, according to AllHipHop. According to the lawsuit, Blige’s actions put Vado in “economic servitude,” preventing him from earning money or paying back loans related to his recording contract.

For breach of contract, emotional suffering, and disruption of business ties, the plaintiffs are requesting $5 million in damages. In order to stop Mary J. Blige or her business from causing any more disruptions, the complaint also asks for an injunction.
