The dispute over the estate of Nipsey Hussle’s daughter intensifies over the payment of legal fees
The family of Nipsey Hussle is embroiled in yet another legal mess.
Although they are embroiled in a financial battle over his daughter’s estate, the rapper’s family and his child, Emani’s mother, are still in the early stages of the custody arrangement process.
Tanisha Foster, the mother of Nipsey Hussle’s kid, who had been at war with the rapper’s family, was able to obtain joint legal and physical custody of her child.
The lawyer for Nipsey Hussle’s daughter was fired from her Treasury for refusing to accept the attorney’s settlement.
Court discussions around Nipsey’s daughter Emani’s inheritance have become more prominent, especially when her mother was granted shared custody.
William Spiller, Emani’s court-appointed counsel, objected to Larry Lewellyn, another lawyer, getting money from Emani’s estate.
Spiller argued that Emani’s bequest should not be used to pay the legal bills for someone who has been in an antagonistic posture throughout the case, even though Lewellyn is Tanisha’s representative.
Spiller stressed that it would not be just or reasonable to use Emani’s assets to cover Tanisha’s and her attorney’s fees. He maintained that, given the possible magnitude of the inheritance, the money shouldn’t go to people who opposed the underage child.
Spiller also noted that Emani’s inheritance will probably be used to pay for her future legal fees, according to In Touch.
The only beneficiaries of the deceased rapper’s eight-figure estate are his children.
On March 31, 2019, Nipsey tragically died, leaving behind two children: Kross and Emani. He shared Kross with his partner, Lauren London.
After his passing, it was decided that his children would be the only beneficiaries of his estimated $11 million fortune, which is still growing thanks to royalties and other commercial endeavors.
Nipsey’s family, including his mother Angelique Smith, sister Samantha Ashgedom, and brother Sam Ashgedom, requested guardianship of Emani due to concerns about her living circumstances, and the court eventually granted it.
Tanisha, however, filed court papers in 2022 to end this guardianship agreement.
Nipsey’s mother and sister resigned as co-guardians of his daughter.
According to The Blast, Tanisha reached a settlement with the late rapper’s family and was granted joint legal and physical custody of Emani.
Nipsey’s mother and sister also resigned as co-guardians after the protracted legal battle, leaving his brother as Emani’s only family guardian.
According to the court’s decision, Emani would spend 60% of her time with Tanisha and the rest with her uncle Sam. Tanisha will maintain her parental rights, and she and Sam now have equal authority to decide what is best for Emani.
By living with both guardians at their houses, the arrangement guarantees Emani’s continuous involvement in all extracurricular and academic activities. Sam, Samantha, Angelique, and Tanisha signed a joint stipulation that was filed on March 5th, formalizing this cooperative arrangement.
Due to financial difficulties, the rapper’s ex-partner consented to her daughter’s guardianship.
In her 2022 petition to remove her daughter Emani’s guardianship, Tanisha stated that she had first consented to the arrangement because she thought it would benefit Emani.
Tanisha also cited her financial struggles and her determination to give Emani the same secure atmosphere she had before as justifications for releasing her daughter.
Later, she vented her annoyance at what she saw as the rapper’s family’s broken promises about her relationship with Emani.
Tanisha claimed that Nipsey’s family limited her engagement in Emani’s life by using their riches and power to deny her financial support and visiting rights.
