Bishop T.D. Jakes declares his resignation as The Potter’s House’s lead pastor

Bishop T.D. Jakes, who created the megachurch, has announced his resignation as its main pastor. At The Potter’s House in Dallas on Sunday, Jakes made the heartbreaking announcement that his daughter and son-in-law, pastors Sarah Jakes Roberts and Toure Roberts, will take over as leaders.

Jakes spoke to the crowd in an emotional voice, saying, “You have been faithful to God and you have been faithful to me.” “And I am so appreciative.”

“As your daughter, I am honored and grateful,” Sarah Jakes Roberts said with tears in her eyes. I’m overjoyed that you’re going to sleep.

The change was made only a few months after Jakes’ catastrophic heart attack during a sermon in November. He later told The Today Show that doctors claimed he would have died if he had reached the hospital five minutes later.

“I can’t afford to risk something happening to me and you being sheep without a shepherd, especially after November,” Jakes told the audience.

Church leaders claimed this succession plan had been planned for years, but people reacted a mixture of hope and regret.

“It’s difficult to replace an icon like Bishop,” remarked veteran Patrick Moore. “It’s really not possible to do that, which is really unfortunate.”

Nevertheless, Moore stated, “In everything we do, transition is always difficult, but it’s also an exciting time.”

Jakes will continue to serve as the church’s spiritual overseer and chairman of the board. Jakes launched The Potter’s House in 1996.
