Trump Demands Free Transit of US Commercial and Military Ships Through the Canals of Suez and Panama
Trump has ordered Secretary Rubio to take action in response to his demands for unrestricted passage of US ships through the Panama and Suez Canals.
On Saturday, US President Donald Trump demanded that American commercial and military vessels be permitted unfettered passage via the Suez and Panama Canals.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “I have requested that Secretary of State Marco Rubio take immediate action to address and memorialize this situation.”
Ships may travel between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans more quickly because to the Panama Canal, which spans the narrowest portion of the isthmus separating North and South America. Every year, it manages about 40% of the container traffic in the US.
Despite the fact that the US built the canal in the early 1900s, Panama took over management in 1999. Trump has expressed his wish to “reclaim” the canal on multiple occasions. Before becoming president, he said he would not rule out regaining control of the strategically important canal through military or economic force.
