Chris Eubank Jr hospitalized following points victory over Benn

Chris Eubank Jr. defeated fellow Briton Conor Benn on a unanimous points decision in their exciting middleweight grudge battle on Saturday, but he was sent to the hospital for precautionary measures.

Both boxers set a fierce tempo and battled to the death in front of 65,000 spectators at London’s Tottenham Hotspur stadium over the course of a thrilling 12-round slugfest, which was scored 116–112 by all three judges.

Just before midnight, Boxxer, Eubank’s promoters, said that the winner had been transported to the hospital via ambulance “on recommendation of the onsite doctor.”

The pre-fight excitement around a fight between the sons of fierce enemies from the 1990s, Chris Eubank Sr. and Nigel Benn, did not obscure love, but the night lived up to the promise and offered new respect and embraces for all sides.

“I knew I was capable of that, I just needed someone to bring me out,” stated Eubank Jr. It was unexpected for him to do that, and I won’t lie.

“I think the fact our fathers did what they did all those years ago, it brings out a different soul and spirit into you and that’s what we both showed here tonight.”

Although Eubank Sr. called the “Fatal Fury” fight a farce and his son’s actions a “disgrace,” the father and son had reconnected in the ring both before and after their estrangement.

In reference to his father, Eubank Jr. remarked, “I’m glad to have this man back with me.” “As we promised, we maintained the family name today. After an intense last round that shown a remarkable amount of resolve and fortitude, the 35-year-old continued, “Onwards and upwards.”

“His presence was necessary. He is to blame for all that has happened.

With a tie seemed more likely, Eubank was flattered by the result even if there were no serious concerns about the winner. At this point, a rematch seemed likely.

Benn, 28, expressed his disappointment after giving his best against an older and bigger opponent, saying he may have paid the price for more than a year out of the ring.

It’s possible that I spent too much time on the ropes. Chris is a capable combatant. It’s just fighting talk, all of it. It would be great to rematch,” he remarked.

In the ninth round, Eubank was cut over his right eye; the referee explained that the wound was from a head-on collision when the fighters linked arms. When they wrestled in round three, both had fallen to the ground.

Long in the planning stages, the bout was called off in 2022 after Benn tested positive for traces of the fertility medication clomifene. It was organized with Saudi support and sponsored by the Saudi-owned Ring Magazine.

In 2023, the World Boxing Council stated that a “highly elevated consumption of eggs” was a plausible explanation for Benn’s alleged deliberate doping.

Following a $100,000 ($133,210) fine in February for assaulting Benn with an egg during a press conference, Eubank Jr. was fined $500,000 on Friday for weighing in half an ounce over the limit.
Eubank is the IBO middleweight champion and has won 35 of his 38 professional fights, whereas Benn has a record of 24 matches with one loss.
