A Wisconsin judge was detained on suspicion of helping an undocumented immigrant escaping from the courtroom

A Wisconsin judge was detained by federal authorities on suspicion of permitting a Mexican national to flee the courthouse and elude immigration officers.

Federal agents have detained a Wisconsin judge on suspicion of trying to assist an unauthorized immigrant in evading arrest while she was in court.

The US Marshals Service verified to CBS News that Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was arrested Friday morning.

Eduardo Flores-Ruiz, a Mexican national facing three misdemeanor violence charges connected to a physical altercation, was arrested in connection with a courtroom incident. Reports state that Flores-Ruiz appeared in court on April 18 with US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel in attendance.

Judge Dugan allegedly led Flores-Ruiz and his lawyer to a side door in the courthouse, possibly enabling him to evade interaction with ICE authorities, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

FBI Director Kash Patel stated in an X post that Judge Dugan “knowingly allowed” Flores-Ruiz to evade federal custody. The message was published and then removed minutes later. After being captured, Flores-Ruiz did show up for his hearing.
