Michelle Obama Discusses Her Decision to Skip Trump’s Inauguration

Michelle considers prioritizing herself, avoiding social gatherings, and discovering the value of saying “no.”

At last, Michelle Obama is correcting the record.

She discussed her reasons for missing Donald Trump’s second inauguration on her podcast, IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson. And no, there was no domestic strife, scandal, or drama.

“It was just the right decision for me,” she stated.

She acknowledged that others simply couldn’t comprehend that her absence wasn’t a serious problem.

“People had to assume that my marriage was failing because they couldn’t believe I was saying no for any other reason.”

Michelle would have been sat next to Trump during Jimmy Carter’s funeral, but her husband, Barack Obama, still attended several ceremonies alone.

More speculations followed, but Michelle made it clear that she needed a vacation from doing “what looked right.”

“I did everything in my power to do what was right for me, rather than what was thought to be right.”

“It started with not having anything to wear,” she added, adding that she even had to outsmart herself to keep to her decision. I thought, “I need to let my team know that I don’t want to even have a dress ready if I’m not going to do this.”

Learning to say “no” without feeling guilty, according to Michelle, includes going to events without Barack or letting him go without her.

“You have to develop that muscle. In order to develop that muscle, we began training late in life.

She now hopes that the following generation develops such muscle at a young age.
“I want our daughters, I want young women everywhere to start learning new ways to say no.”

Despite everything she has accomplished, Michelle still feels pressured to “go high” and act in a way that is socially acceptable, even when it is not.

“That crazy bar that our mothers and grandmothers set for us is all I’m doing.”
