Klaus Schwab Resigns From His Position as World Economic Forum Chair After More Than 50 Years

Klaus Schwab has resigned as the Chair of the WEF after more than 50 years, signifying a significant change in leadership.

Klaus Schwab, the prominent founder of the World Economic Forum (WEF), has officially stepped down as Chair of its Board of Trustees, signaling the conclusion of a significant chapter for the institution he transformed into a major assembly of global business and political leaders.

The 87-year-old German economist, who has been at the helm of the Geneva-based organization since its founding in 1971, announced his resignation in a statement issued by the WEF on Monday.

“In light of my recent announcement, and as I approach my 88th year, I have made the decision to resign from my role as Chair and as a member of the Board of Trustees, effective immediately,” Schwab stated.

During an extraordinary meeting on April 20, the WEF board accepted Schwab’s resignation. Peter Brabeck-Letmathe, the Vice Chairman, will take on the role of interim chairman as a committee initiates the search for a permanent successor.

Schwab established the WEF to create a collaborative platform where world leaders, top executives, and experts can engage in discussions and tackle urgent global challenges.
