Barker: Simba can be defeated

Steve Barker, the head coach of Stellenbosch, is certain that his team can overcome a 1-0 deficit against Simba and get to the CAF Confederation Cup final.

In the first leg of their semi-final match at the Amaan Stadium in Zanzibar on Sunday, Jean Ahoua scored a single goal just before halftime to undo the Maroons.

This season, Stellies has been quite strong at home in the competition, scoring 12 goals while maintaining five clean sheets and only losing once, 3-1 to RS Berkane in the group stages.

As the game went on, Barker thought his team began to have the upper hand against the Msimbazi Reds, and he thinks victory is extremely likely in the second leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium on April 27.

“I thought we were the stronger team as the game progressed, and we improved,” Barker remarked. “Clearly, we wanted to score an away goal. However, I have a lot of confidence that we will overcome this gap and make it to the final.

“We might not make it to the final, but from what I’ve seen, Simba is beatable.”
