Lewandowski of Barcelona has sustained a hamstring injury
Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona was forced to leave the game during their 4-3 victory against Celta Vigo due to a hamstring injury, the La Liga team said on Sunday.
In the 98th minute of the match, which Barca won to increase their La Liga lead, Lewandowski, who made his 100th La Liga appearance on Saturday, went down clutching his leg.
“Tests carried out this Sunday have confirmed that first-team player Robert Lewandowski has an injury to the semitendinosus muscle in his left thigh,” the Barcelona club announced in a statement.
“His return to team training will depend on how the injury progresses.”
The 36-year-old, who has scored 40 goals this season, may miss next weekend’s Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid due to a hamstring injury, however the club did not provide a timetable for his comeback.
He may miss three weeks of action, according to Spanish media, which could be a major setback for Barcelona as they prepare to play Inter Milan in the Champions League semi-finals in the upcoming weeks.
Lewandowski has scored 25 goals this season, three more than Kylian Mbappe of Real Madrid, making him the top scorer in La Liga.
