Dani Carvajal might be suspended for four games following his altercation with Bukayo Saka
There was a stressful moment at the halftime break of Real Madrid vs. Arsenal’s Champions League quarterfinal second leg, which resulted in Madrid’s elimination. Near the tunnel, Bukayo Saka confronted Dani Carvajal, grabbing him by the neck and pointing at him.
Carvajal entered an area typically used by coaching staff and players who are eligible to participate, despite not being able to play because of a major injury he got against Villarreal on October 5 of last year.
According to Article 15 of UEFA’s disciplinary rules, the Spanish right-back could be suspended for up to four games as a result. Xabi Alonso’s suspension at the 2014 Champions League final is a well-known example of how a one-match penalty can be enforced for “participating in a match when not eligible,” according to Section 15.a.viii.
Carvajal may also be subject to additional sanctions under clause 15.e, which stipulates a three-match suspension for “assaulting another player or person involved in the match.” The match delegate must mention the occurrence in the official report in order for UEFA to apply such a sanction.
In light of the situation, Carvajal might be subject to a hefty fine if the incident is formally recorded.
