Dangote Refinery Lowers Nationwide Gas Prices for the Second Time in a Week
The price of gasoline has been lowered for the second time in a week by Dangote Refinery, and it is now N835 per liter.
For the second time in a week, the Dangote refinery announced on Wednesday that gasoline prices coming out of its facility would be reduced nationally. This is a significant display of transparency in an industry that is generally perceived as being opaque.
The news came the same day that Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC), reaffirmed his dedication to building solid and productive relationships with important stakeholders in order to fulfill the strategic mandate that President Bola Tinubu had given him.
Ojulari reportedly made the commitment during a courtesy call to Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), according to a statement released on Wednesday by Mr. Olufemi Soneye, the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC.
The refinery stated in the statement on the gasoline price drop by Anthony Chiejina, Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer of the Dangote Group, that the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also referred to as gasoline, has now decreased from N865 to N835 per litre.
Nigerians can now buy gasoline at reduced prices from its partner retail stations around the country, such as MRS, AP (Ardova), Heyden, Optima Energy, Hyde, and Tecno Oil, the refinery said.
“Dangote Petroleum Refinery is happy to announce that, beginning of Wednesday, April 16, 2025, the gantry price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), also referred to as gasoline, would be reduced from N865 to N835. In less than a week, this is the second price cut.
“The following rates will now be offered for premium Dangote gasoline at all of our partner retail locations: In Lagos, petrol costs N920 per litre; key partners, including as MRS, AP (Ardova), Heyden, Optima Energy, Hyde, and Tecno Oil, will supply it for N890.
The price will drop from N930 to N900 per liter in the South-West. The price will be reduced from N940 per litre to N910 in the North-west and North-central. Down from N950 per liter, the price will be N920 in the South-east, South-south, and North-east.
“These price cuts reaffirm our dedication to offering premium gasoline at competitive prices, which will benefit consumers nationwide.” In order to guarantee that this price decrease is reflected fairly, we are also cooperating with our partners,” the company said in its statement.
Customers were kept in the dark even when the factors influencing the prices of petroleum products changed, and marketers hardly ever disclosed landing prices—which ultimately set the rates at the pumps—before the refinery arrived.
For many years, the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), which oversees the industry, has done little to enlighten the public about the factors governing the pricing of petroleum products in the nation.
In some countries, with changes in the elements that affect retail prices, purchasers of petroleum products can even predict how much they will spend on the products over the course of the next month.
But according to a statement released on Wednesday by Dangote Petroleum Refinery, it has continuously sought to lower the cost of gasoline and other refined petroleum products, guaranteeing that Nigerian consumers will continue to profit.
The refinery, for instance, lowered rates by N125 twice in February, it continued. Additionally, as a result of the refinery’s persistent efforts, goods like diesel and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) have seen notable price decreases.
The facility’s management clarified that it expects the recent drop in gas prices to have a beneficial knock-on effect across the economy, giving consumers much-needed respite and fostering additional economic expansion, especially over the Easter period.
The corporation is still committed to providing a consistent supply of high-quality petroleum products, with enough reserves to meet domestic demand and extra for export, according to the Dangote Petroleum Refinery.
This plan aims to help Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves increase while simultaneously promoting the stability of the local market.
To ensure that the advantages of these price reductions are fully realized nationwide, Dangote Petroleum Refinery further calls on industry players, including as distributors and marketers, to keep purchasing their products from the refinery, the business noted.
To successfully carry out the strategic mandate given to him by Tinubu, Mr. Bashir Bayo Ojulari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the NNPC, has underlined his dedication to establishing solid and productive alliances with important stakeholders.
Ojulari reportedly made the commitment during a courtesy call to Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), according to a statement released by Soneye on Wednesday.
He emphasized a common goal for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector in terms of development and output.
The general chief executive officer emphasized that he and his executive leadership team were entering office with a collaborative mindset and a strong determination to leave a lasting impression.
To overcome bureaucratic obstacles and expedite outcomes, he pointed out that NNPC Ltd.’s success will rely on tight collaboration with the Ministries of Finance, Petroleum, and other pertinent organizations.
Our approach is one of collaboration—cooperation with the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, and all other important parties. We want to close divides, promote unity, and advance as a single unit. Cooperation is how we succeed; antagonism serves no one’s interests,” Ojulari said.
In response, Lokpobiri said he had great faith in the new NNPC Ltd. leadership, citing his personal acquaintance with several of the management team members and his excellent feedback regarding their professional skills.
“This may be the most capable leadership group that NNPC Ltd. has ever put together. It’s time to turn that reputation into quantifiable outcomes, particularly in terms of boosting crude oil output and making sure the industry provides the Nigerian people with the best possible value.
In addition to promising Ojulari his steadfast support and strategic direction, the minister said his office would collaborate closely with the GCEO to enable NNPC Ltd. in fulfilling its national duty.
“This renewed spirit of partnership signals a new chapter for the oil and gas industry, marked by operational excellence, mutual commitment to national development, and purposeful collaboration,” the statement continued.
