Haiti approved the “war time budget” while criminal gangs cause chaos

An extraordinary “war time budget” was approved by Haiti’s transitional presidential council on Monday to deal with a security and social emergency, as armed gangs have seized control of almost the entire capital and its environs.

According to a council statement, the 36 billion gourdes ($275.86 million) budget would be utilized to protect the border, strengthen security forces, and fund social initiatives.
