Ne-Yo explains the ban on his four girlfriends dating other men

During a recent appearance on Power 105.1’s The Angie Martinez Show, Ne-Yo continued to talk openly about his open relationships with four women. He clarified that, despite having many partners, his girlfriends are not permitted to see other guys. 

He has “never been happier” with his relationship status, the 45-year-old singer/songwriter told the radio legend, adding that he doesn’t care if traditionalists don’t like his way of life. “I was attempting to be one man, one woman, as society dictates. It’s simply a happier life, but it has never worked for me.

The native of Las Vegas claims that he is free to visit anybody he wants, but he has made a commitment to always share this information with his “poly pyramid” partners, who have all consented to the arrangement. Additionally, Ne-Yo emphasized that his four girlfriends are in his life voluntarily and have the option to leave at any time if they change their minds. 

He assured Martinez, “I’m not pressuring anyone to be here.” “The door is never locked if you decide for any reason that this isn’t for you anymore. You are free to carry on with your business. I don’t want anyone to believe that I’m pressuring these women into doing something against their will. Everyone present has chosen to be here. They decided on it.

“The most common question I receive is, ‘Are they permitted to date outside of me?'” he continued. I hear that question all the time, and I’m going to say no right now. And I’ll explain why. They’re not, that’s for sure. The problem is this. I didn’t request these women’s exclusivity when I started dating them. I didn’t ask them to be exclusive. They made the offer. “I want to be exclusive to you and just you,” they said to me.

To the dismay of many, including his ex-girlfriend Sade Bagnerise, who recently chastised the singer for exposing their two kids to his lifestyle, the R&B singer has been open about his polyamorous journey. In an interview with The Rickey Smiley Morning Show in March 2025, Ne-Yo acknowledged discussing his several relationships with his kids.

Regarding his lifestyle, he stated, “I’m not lying to anybody, not even my children,” adding that he has informed his children, He gestured to several others and said, “Hey, this is Daddy’s girlfriend, and so is that, and so is that, and so is that.” Along with making you some cereal, she will also prepare lunch and wash your clothing. And everything is OK. It’s family. It’s a community. And that is the main focus.
