Salah breaks the Premier League record as Liverpool defeats West Ham
Liverpool overcame West Ham United 2-1 on Sunday, with Virgil van Dijk scoring a late goal and Mohamed Salah breaking the record for the most goal involvements in a season.
Liverpool is now two wins away from winning the title after West Ham tied the score in the 86th minute and skipper Van Dijk headed the game-winning goal three minutes later in front of the Kop.
West Ham sits in 17th position with 35 points, 14 points out of the relegation zone, while Liverpool leads second-place Arsenal by 13 points with six games left.
But shortly after, in celebration of Salah’s two-year contract renewal, the fans began shouting his name.
A development is expected next week, since the Dutchman hinted that he would remain.
At the end of the season, Van Dijk’s contract expires.
The home team got off to a good start, and Salah duly provided the cross for the first goal.
Luis Diaz was able to tap in at the edge of the six-yard box after his incredible throw with the outside of his boot curled past the last defender.
Salah set the record for most goal involvements in a season with 45 goal involvements in 38 Premier League games, including 27 goals and 18 assists.
The Brazilian goalie scampered back and deflected the shot against the crossbar to give Liverpool a reprieve after Mohammed Kudus saw Alisson off his line and attempted a lob for West Ham.
