Viola Davis Discusses Her Daughter’s Heartfelt Response To Her Upcoming Film

Viola Davis has shared how her teenage daughter’s heartfelt reaction to her recent performance profoundly affected her.

During an appearance on ‘Good Morning America’ on Monday, the 59-year-old actor shared her thoughts while promoting her upcoming action film, G20, which is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on Thursday, April 10.

In a conversation with presenter Michael Strahan, 53, Viola shared her 14-year-old daughter Genesis’s reaction to watching her in the film, recounting, “She kept saying, ‘Oh my goodness.’” Mom, Mom, you’re truly remarkable, dear. You’re exceptional!

“She wept.” She chuckled.

“I cherished the role of being the hero to my teenage daughter.” During these teenage years, it’s common to feel like you just fade away.

“They transform into the undead, while you take on any role but that of a hero.”
She remarked, “Her sitting there watching me like that… it just, yeah.” It encompassed all that one could desire.

Viola shares Genesis with her husband Julius Tennon, who is 70 years old.

In 2011, a year following her birth, the couple welcomed their daughter through adoption.

Viola, celebrated for her remarkable talent in both stage and screen, is recognized for her award-winning roles in ‘Fences’, ‘The Woman King’ and ‘How to Get Away with Murder’.

She belongs to an exclusive circle of performers who have attained EGOT status, having secured Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony awards.

Even with the recognition, Viola has expressed that becoming a parent has provided her with a more profound sense of purpose.

In an interview with People in 2017, she remarked, “It was great, but it was not fulfilling.” I desired for my life to hold significance and possess a deeper essence.

“At that moment, the urge emerged, and it was incredibly, overwhelmingly strong.” I have a child now, and she truly brings joy to our lives.

Viola mentioned that although she is not “the brownie-making mother,” she places a strong emphasis on emotional support and creativity in her approach to parenting.
