‘The Jackson 5’ With His Nephew’s Ex-Girlfriend: Damon Wayans Sr. Discloses
In a past relationship, Damon Wayans Sr. got caught up in a family love triangle.
The comedian said that after he broke up with his ex-wife Lisa Thorner, he went out with his nephew’s ex-girlfriend.
The Wayans family is very close and is known for working together on artistic projects. His brother Keenen Ivory Wayans made the famous sketch show “In Living Color,” which starred Damon and his siblings.
Dwayans Sr. said that his nephew and his partner were not in love.
While on the Club Shay Shay show with Shannon Sharpe, Damon made an unexpected confession: he dated the ex-girlfriend of his nephew. He thought about the connection when he was 64 and said, “I was in love with her.”
He also made a funny reference to the Jackson family by saying that his situation was like Jermaine Jackson marrying Randy Jackson’s ex-girlfriend. “You ain’t never done the Jackson 5?” he asked.
Sharpe asked if the relationship was right, and Damon made it clear that his nephew and the woman were not in love. When they met, it was after Damon’s split from Lisa, around 2001.
He said he fell in love with her right away, saying, “When I saw her, I was like, ‘Oh my God.'” In the end, she found out that she had dated his nephew before being with him.
The comedian’s nephew gave him permission to go after his romantic goals.
Damon talked about the love project in more detail and talked about how working with his family works. He said that he asked his nephew’s permission before taking a relationship with a woman he liked.
The comedian also made a funny point of saying that this kind of situation can make family meetings awkward. In the entertainment business, the Wayans family is known for working together.
Right now, Damon stars in the CBS show “Poppa’s House” with his son, Damon Wayans Jr. His brother Marlon and sister Kim also work on the show; Kim directed an episode.
When Damon talked to PEOPLE about the draw of working with family, he stressed that most actors have to work for years to build up the trust and chemistry they already have, which makes their collaborations feel natural and effortless.
Inside the return of “The Father of Four” to TV
The 64-year-old comedian has made a lot of notable roles in movies and TV shows, but stand-up comedy is what he does best and often goes on tour as a stand-up comedian.
Besides acting, he is also known for writing, directing, and producing movies like “The Last Boy Scout,” “Mo’Money,” “Blankman,” and “Bamboozled.”
The Blast reported in 2022 that CBS was working on a comedy about a father and son that would star the two. Damon Sr. and producer Kevin Hench wrote the script together. The project didn’t have a name at the time, but it had been said to be in the works for a while.
The story is about “Poppa,” a happy-go-lucky talk radio host who has to help his adult son become an adult before he turns 40. The older Wayans will play Poppa, and Damon Jr. will play the son, who has some of his father’s charm but not his drive.
These guys (Waynes and Hench) will be in charge of producing this project for CBS Studios. It’s interesting to note that the younger Wayans’ Two Shakes Entertainment has been on CBS since the beginning.
Damon Jr.’s TV Career Over the Years: The Comedian’s Son: Damon Jr. started his acting career on TV with a well-known recurring part. He then got lead roles in popular shows like “Happy Together,” “Happy Endings,” and “New Girl.”
However, “Happy Together” only had one season, and one of the episodes, “Like Father, Like Son,” showed how the Wayans brothers interacted with each other.
Also well-known are his work on his father’s Showtime sketch comedy show “The Underground” and movies like “Supercool,” “Cherry,” and “Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar.” He finished work on the Netflix show “Players” not long ago and is also an executive producer on the thriller “Glamorous.”
His dad, Damon Sr., has been nominated for four Emmys and co-created and starred in the groundbreaking show “In Living Color,” which was a big moment in his career.
He is also known for playing Roger Murtaugh in the “Lethal Weapon” movies. At the time, he was set to star with Pam Grier in the new Tubi thriller “Cinnamon.”
After being called transphobic names, Damon Wayans Sr. backed Dave Chappelle.
People were upset with Chappelle’s jokes in the Netflix special “Closer,” which some people saw as transphobic. Damon Sr. spoke out in support of Chappelle.
In an interview, Damon Sr. praised Chappelle for giving comedians the freedom to express themselves. He compared Chappelle’s impact to that of an artist like Van Gogh who makes big sacrifices for their work.
Chappelle’s material included stories about a transgender friend and jokes that talked about the problems transgender people face, like not being able to have kids.
Damon said that Chappelle’s readiness to talk about controversial topics was brave and could encourage other comedians to speak from the heart.
He said that there needs to be a bigger talk about how comedians are often limited by political correctness and the fear of losing their jobs because of what they say.
That was a big surprise from Damon Wayans Sr. and his interesting family!
