Stalker of Scarlett Johansson arrested after alleged bomb threat against Colin Jost’s workplace
This week, in New York City, a man who is fascinated with Scarlett Johansson was arrested for reportedly threatening to destroy the “Saturday Night Live” studios where her husband, Colin Jost, works.
The 48-year-old Michael Joseph Branham, who has a massive heart tattoo with Scarlett Johansson’s name engraved on it, is accused by the prosecution of being a major threat because of his “personal obsession” with the “Black Widow” actress.
After threatening to bomb the “SNL” audience, a man was charged.
“THE NEXT TIME YOU HERE [sic] FROM ME I WILL BE ON CNN FOR EXPLODING A BOMB IN ‘SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE’ AUDIENCE,” said the criminal complaint published by the New York Post, which states that Branham was arrested on Wednesday after sending a scary warning to his institution.
Police sources informed The Post that the threat was immediately reported to the NYPD by NBC Universal and 30 Rockefeller Plaza, the location where “SNL” is filmed.
He was charged with two felonies on Thursday: falsely reporting an event and threatening mass harm. Jamie Alexander Niskanen-Singer, his court-appointed lawyer, argued that bail should be reduced, but the judge placed it at $300,000 bond or $100,000 cash.
A judge issues protective orders for Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson.
In court, Niskanen-Singer asserted that Branham had been tricked by internet con artists impersonating Johansson, even implying that they might have been responsible for the threatening communication. He has disseminated information. “Your honor,” the lawyer informed the judge, “he might have been hacked.” “It’s quite possible that someone is putting him in this situation.”
However, citing the seriousness of the danger, Judge Janet McDonnell rejected the bail decrease. She claimed, as reported by The Post, that “he threatened to bomb ‘Saturday Night Live,’ which is a violent bail qualifying activity.”
Additionally, McDonnell granted protective orders to Colin Jost and Scarlett Johansson, even though the defense claimed that they weren’t required because the duo wasn’t present when the crime was committed.
Also, Branham tweeted about buying a new rifle a few days before he left for New York.
Once claiming to be the father of Johansson’s child, the same man who threatened “SNL”
Branham has had unsettling experiences with the actress before.
After Branham appeared to Johansson’s house in November 2023 and claimed to be the father of one of her children, Johansson allegedly tried to get a restraining order. He also allegedly placed items for the kids and letters outside her house, along with messages saying that he wanted to meet Cosmo and spend time with him “as his father.”
Johansson’s team was unable to serve Branham with the legal documents, therefore the restraining order was eventually denied.
“SNL” Threat Suspect Said FBI Mind-Controlled Him, Online Admitted Love for Scarlett Johansson
On social media, Branham, who allegedly has four open warrants in Kentucky, has long expressed his love for the “Black Widow” actress.
He posted images of himself in New York City on March 30 along with the question, “Where am I?”
He had shared close-up photos of his eyes on social media just a week prior, stating that he had visited the FBI’s New York office and was informed that “they have had control over my cameras in my eyes and they hear everything in my head.”
With the words, “#SCARLETTINGRIDJOHANSSON I LOVE YOU HONEY!!!!” he concluded the message.
Scarlett Johansson’s alleged stalker posted years’ worth of unsettling messages online and claimed to be her fiancé.
In June 2023, he wrote that he will be in New York City “soon” and that he and the actress “will have a great time, we just gotta get past this game.” His X account is full of increasingly odd posts regarding Johansson. She looked amazing in work clothes, and he praised her for “buying me a car!!!!” in another message.
Even before you got me this car, you were the greatest lady I’ve ever known, he wrote in December 2021. “I love you, gorgeous!”
On the same day, he also tweeted, “Don’t worry about anything [Johansson] no matter what the brain interface folks say you in the radio waves! I still haven’t cheated on you! I’m still in Hollywood waiting for you because I love you, honey.
Branham even went so far as to say that he is “Scarlett Johansson’s Fiancée” on his LinkedIn page.
Branham’s next court appearance is set on April 8.
