Switch 2 pre-orders in the US were just delayed by Nintendo, and Trump’s tariffs are to blame
Nintendo has decided to halt U.S. pre-orders for the upcoming Switch 2 because of the economic uncertainties brought on by the most recent round of tariffs imposed by the Trump administration. The business originally intended to start pre-orders on April 9, but it has now stated that it will review the date as it considers the potential effects of the new trade restrictions on price and distribution.
Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2 will still launch in the United States on June 5, 2025, in a statement distributed through GameStop. But because tariffs are making international markets unstable, particularly with regard to electronics and Asian imports, the company is delaying early sales until more information is available.
Even though Nintendo has expanded its production outside of China, a sizable amount of its supply chain is still headquartered in Asia. Because of this, it is especially susceptible to changes in US trade policy. Just enough uncertainty seems to have been added by the additional tariffs to necessitate a short-term adjustment in planning.
GameStop promised fans that it is closely collaborating with Nintendo and will promptly release any new information. Gamers who are anxious to get the Switch 2 will currently have to wait a little while longer to secure their pre-orders.
