Muller is going to leave Bayer Munich at the end of the season
Thomas Mueller stated on Saturday that he will leave Bayern Munich at the end of the current season after 25 trophy-filled years there since he was not offered a new contract.
“I would have liked to stay,” the 35-year-old attacking midfielder, who started his career as a junior player and went on to become the most successful player in the Bundesliga with 12 league titles, said in a social media post.
“I still genuinely like being on the field with the guys and competing for titles with our team, even after all these years, regardless of how many minutes I play.
Mueller remarked, “I could have easily imagined taking on this role next year as well.”
But the team purposefully chose not to work out a new deal with me for the upcoming campaign.
It’s crucial that the club stays true to its principles, even if this didn’t align with my personal preferences.
“The board and supervisory board definitely did not take this step lightly, and I respect it.”
He made no mention of the following stage of his club career.
Mueller was a definite starter for years, but during the last two seasons, his playing time has greatly diminished, and under coach Vincent Kompany, he now only plays a minor role.
Despite months of intense speculation over his future, neither the player nor the club have spoken anything as of yet.
Although Mueller is not anticipated to leave football anytime soon, Bayern has stated that they want him to continue to be involved with the squad once his playing days are done.
According to Bayern, the decision to end Mueller’s career with the squad was decided after consulting with the player. Mueller will play his final games for the team in June and July at the Club World Cup in the United States.
“Thomas Mueller is the perfect example of a Bavarian textbook career,” remarked Herbert Hainer, the club president.
His 33 victories are a testament to the fact that no one has ever won more German crowns. He becomes one of FC Bayern’s most remarkable figures.
Mueller was a one-club player, which is unusual in modern elite football, and he won two Champions League titles, two club World Cups, and six German Cups with Bayern.
Additionally, he helped Germany win the 2014 World Cup.
With Bayern leading the title race by nine points, Mueller may add additional titles to his swollen trophy collection this season.
They will also play Inter Milan of Italy in the Champions League quarterfinals the following week.
The Allianz Arena in Munich will host the Champions League final.
“Now our full focus is on our sporting goals for the season,” Mueller said.
“It would be a dream for me to bring the league trophy back home and reach the long-awaited final at home at the end of May.”
